Before I got sick, I was a member of my church Praise Team and my mother could tell you that I sang before I talked. I love Christian music of all types from traditional hymns to contemporary praise and worship. Any music that has God at its center is something that I enjoy. Worship Songs is music from the soul and meant to be directed as praise to God. They typically have messages from the Bible woven into the lyrics and are meant to be a reinforcement of God’s Word.

So, for this last Sunday of Blogtober, I want to share with you my 5 favorite Worship Songs. These are the ones that I play most everyday and will catch myself singing at any moment.

My Top 5 Worship Songs Countdown

#5: Captivate Us by Watermark

This song has been on my favorites list for over 6 years. The words to the chorus come to me out of the blue many times a week.

Chorus:

Captivate us Lord Jesus set our eyes on You
Devastate us with your presence falling down
And rushing river draw us nearer
Holy fountain consume us with You
Captivate us Lord Jesus with You

#4: When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

This is an old hymn written by Isaac Watts in 1707. It is one of the most beautiful hymns I have every heard and Kathryn Scott’s voice adds a richness to the words like no other.

Verse 1:

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.

#3: It Is Well – Kristene DiMarco & Bethel Music

This song talks about how things are ok because God has control. Through my sickness, this song has helped me through some really tough days. It reminds me to keep my eyes on God and He will calm the storms.

Verse 2:

Far be it from me to not believe
Even when my eyes can’t see
And this mountain that’s in front of me
Will be thrown into the midst of the sea

#2: You Say by Lauren Daigle

The message in this song just can’t be denied! We tell ourselves many things that are wrong and God contradicts every single one of them. This song points out a lot of those contradictions with God’s Truth!

Chorus:

You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing
You say I am strong when I think I am weak
You say I am held when I am falling short
When I don’t belong, oh You say that I am Yours

#1: Set My Heart by Vertical Worship

I found this song during some of my darkest days during the beginning of my illness. It is a song that is pleading with God to change the harsh direction of life. This song also talks about how if we set our heart on God that He can move in our lives.

Verse 1:

Quiet the voice of doubt again
Echo within me every promise
Let your Word be louder than my fears
Speak to the void when I can’t see
Lift up my head in every valley
Let Your joy be greater than my grief
