    Migraine Explained: Prodrome

One of the things that makes a migraine different than an ordinary headache is that a migraine has phases. Over the next few weeks, I want to take an indepth look at each phase of a migraine. Today we will be looking at the Prodrome. What is Prodrome? Prodrome is derived from the Greek word, prodromos which means running before. Migraine Explained: Cognitive Dysfunction

Cognitive Dysfunction is the loss of functions such as thinking, remembering, and reasoning of sufficient severity to interfere with daily functioning. People experiencing cognitive dysfunction have trouble with verbal recall, basic arithmetic, and concentration. These types of delays are common with Chronic Migraine patients and is often referred to as “Brain Fog”. These are all migraine triggers for me and there is nothing I can do about them…except push through. I woke up on Saturday morning around 5 am with a Hemiplegic Migraine that fortunately responded well to my medication and I slept for a few hours more. When I woke…

    The Truth about Phantom Smells

One of the Migraine symptoms that my husband and I are able to find humor in is my ability to smell the strangest things before a migraine. This phenomenon is called Phantosmia, Olfactory Hallucinations or in simple terms, phantom smells. Basically, it means smelling things that are not there. It sounds strange but it is actually fairly common for migraineurs to experience. This symptom is part of the Prodrome phase of a migraine (the phase before the migraine actually begins). If you are able to recognize them, they can be a warning sign for the looming Migraine. My most common smell is fresh baked Blueberry Muffins. No matter where I was…I would…
