Why Pamper Yourself?

As I am writing this, Hurricane Florence has been pounding the North Carolina coast for 24 hours and is starting to slowly start her journey south toward me. All of the models show very little likelihood that it will make it here and for that I am incredibly grateful. That doesn’t exactly mean that I am completely “out of the woods” so to speak. The Barometric Pressure started dropping around 3 am and has continued to drop significantly through out the day. I have had a hemiplegic migraine that morphed into a nasty headache with nausea and all over joint pain. I feel like I need to pamper myself on days like these.

  1. Eat your favorite comfort food. I realize that it is probably not healthy to attach food with being comforted but honestly I am not too concerned about that. As long as you are not comforting yourself daily with food, it is not a big deal. There are times when I feel bad that I have intense cravings for certain food. Most of the time it is a starch of some kind and that is fine because they usually settle my stomach. So, enjoy that macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, bread and other comfort food.
  2. Declare an official Pajama Day! To be honest, everyone needs an occasional pajama day, or at least I know I do! It is much easier to relax when you are in your comfy clothes and on days when you don’t feel well are what pajama days are made for. To make it even better, find your favorite soft blanket and just curl up for the day. It really is ok to just stop for the day and take some down time.
  3. Give yourself permission to just Stop! Yes, that is right! Have a guilt free, chore free day! I think that sometimes we tend to push ourselves too hard. Sometimes our bodies just need a rest. Give yourself permission to stop for the day! Do only the things that you really want to do. Trust me, that laundry will still be there when you are feeling more like conquering it.
  4. Read a book, listen to your favorite Music or Binge Watch your favorite shows. Nothing passes the time like sinking yourself into a great story or into some great music. So, whether you are watching a movie, reading a book or listening to your favorite music you are giving your mind an opportunity to relax.

So, the next time you are having a day that you just don’t feel well, try these things to pamper yourself through the day. And as Scarlet O’Hara said, “Tomorrow is another day”.
